New Valentine’s Day Tradition

Hey Poulette,
I have a confession to make.
I’m not a fan of Valentine’s Day. That may come as a surprise from someone who has made love stories her raison d’être, but alas, it’s true. Maybe my V-Day antipathy stems from the angsty childhood experience of passing out candy hearts with personally chosen messages to my various crushes and receiving nothing in return, or maybe it’s a vestige of my lonely twenties. At any rate, February 14th is not circled with a red heart on my calendar and it’s certainly not a date that I look forward to each year.
But maybe it could be? I’m thinking of starting a new tradition where I treat myself to something special (or a series of something special) on Valentine’s Day.
Want to join me?
Here are a few ideas. Let’s…:
read a poem with our morning cup of coffee.
practice loving self-talk throughout the day. Tell yourself how fabulous you are! If you have an especially mean and judgy inner critic like I do, tell her to take the day off.
cook a decadent meal for one or order in.
light some candles, have a long, languid soak in some scented bubbles.
put that expensive lotion on– you know, the one you save for special occasions.
curl up after lunch with an addictive romance read.
Listen, I would be delighted to help you with that last item on the self-care list. That’s why I’m giving away Love on the Rocks this week. And it’s not just me. Dozens of authors have teamed up to bring you free or discounted books through the Be My Valentine book blast. So, go on, treat yourself! And let me know what other special treat you indulged in.
Bisous,
Maggie
